Downtown Puerto Vallarta
is known as "Viejo Vallarta," and is the site of the original village. This old
part of town draws artists and photographers because of its quaint, old-Mexico style homes with red tile roofs and bougainvillea
spilling from the balconies.
In the town square you will find the "Palacio
Municipal" (Municipal Center) and the Cathedral Guadalupe, which is Puerto
Vallarta's most famous landmark. Its crown-shaped bell tower can be seen for miles around.
A mile-long boardwalk known as the "Malecon", runs along the downtown
oceanfront street, Paseo Diaz Ordas. Here you will find several blocks of shops,
galleries, gift shops, restaurants and night clubs facing the ocean.
The city's clean,
friendly atmosphere, unique ambiance and incredibly diverse shopping possibilities attract international and Mexican visitors
in droves. Offering an extremely wide variety of attractions and entertainment options, Puerto Vallarta has something
special for everyone, regardless of personal preferences.
