As passengers exit their planes into one of the gate areas at Terminal One at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywod International Airport (FLL) one of the first things they see are aquariums filled with fish indigenous to the Everglades and the Atlantic Ocean...

Meanwhile, as the passengers go down an escalator in the departure level of that terminal, next to a giant wall mural by renowned marine artist Guy Harvey, they get a feeling similar to that of a diver descending to the ocean floor.

Welcome to South Florida  ~
From the subtle to the not so subtle, the terminals at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport feature touches that say to visitors, "You're in Fort Lauderdale... Let the Fun Begin"
From the huge mural by Harvey, to authentic, preserved palm trees, to high-definition screens showing sights around South Florida - carpeting with a beach theme - the terminals' interior is intended to give travelors an immediate feeling of South Florida.

The three-story-tall, 40-foot-wide artwork depicts ocean life in the Atlantic, off Fort Lauderdale's beaches.  The mural shows the city's skyline, a sailfish, and below-the-water-line scenery featuring a sunken ship and various species of fish common to South Florida.
On Concorse B inside Terminal One, artwork depicting marlin, sailfish, dolphine and reef fish can be seen on the collumns that surround the six aquariums that hold marine life indigenous to the area.

~ Scenes of life in South Florida abound ~
For example, at the east end of the lobby in Terminal One, a large plasma screen shows high-definition pictures of scenes of South Florida.
In Concorse B, smaller plasma screens that hang from, the ceiling show wildlife scenes as well as shots of the Intercoastal Waterway and downtown Fort Lauderdale.
Along that same concorse, flooring reflects life in South Florida.  The terrazzo tile features an alligator, and as you make your way down the concourse, the carpeting pattern gradually changes from an Everglades to an ocean theme.

Concorse C in Terminal One features a replica of the wave wall that graces Fort lauderdale's beach near Las Olas Boulevard.
In Terminal Three, street lamps, park benches and stroefront windows replicate the strretscapes of Las Olas and downtown Hollywood.

"Whether you are on a trip or a well-deserved vacation FLL's facilities offer travelers a taste of what makes this area so special"

Avoid the Cruise Crunch   ~

With almost 23 million people a year flying into and out of Fort Lauderdale-hollywod internation Airport, it's one of the busiest air travel facilities in the country.
That's especialy true during prime cruise season, when thousands of passengers pass through the airport either on theeir way to port everglades to board a cruise ship or from the port to catch their return flight.
the airport's busiest times during the cruise season are saterdays and sundays from November through April.
Those weekend days are normally busy, but during peak cruise season it is typical for six or seven ships to be in port at the same time.  With each ship having anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 passengers, many of whom fly in and out of the airport. [15,000 passengers are passing through each day]
In order to minimize your wait time at FLL during cruise season, airport officials advise flying on other days of the week.  if thats not possible, avoid flight that depart or arive during the middle of the day - from 10am to 5pm - on Saterday or Sunday.  instead take the early morning or evening flights.
